Launched yesterday on June 28th, Tamagotchi Plaza is the newest cozy-life sim you didn’t know you needed but are already emotionally dependent on. It’s a shop management slice-of-life featuring the iconic digital pets you probably once kept alive in your elementary school pencil case. Now they’re full-blown townies!
What You Need to Know
Bandai Namco is calling it “a community-centric shop sim with vibrant life sim elements,” but we’re calling it what it is: The tamaverse crossover you didn’t know your inner child was CRAVING. Developed by Hyde, Inc., Tamagotchi Plaza puts you in charge of a growing downtown area where you’re not just running one store, but overseeing an entire shopping dreamscape.
You start small like a mini tea shop and a dentist with anxiety. But as you serve customers, complete quirky little quests, and level up shops, your plaza becomes a thicc, bustling hub of Tamagotchi drama, commerce, and cuteness. It’s capitalism, but make it kawaii.
Available now for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, the latter comes with exclusive goodies: three bonus shops with mouse support, plus slick new controls thanks to Joy-Con 2. For those who already bought the regular ones, don’t worry. You can upgrade via the upgrade pack.
Featured Characters & Costumes
There are over 100 Tamagotchi characters milling around your town. Expect to see familiar icons like Mametchi, Lovelitchi, and Kuromametchi, each more expressive than ever. From fuzzy bathrobes to tiny chef’s hats, the aesthetic is giving soft, squishy drama club.
Some characters will ask you to help with minor life crises. Others might need a place to cry about their crooked glasses. It’s giving slice-of-life meets emotional support duck, and we’re here for it.
There’s also offline local multiplayer, so you and a friend can team up and run shops together, although not all stores and mini-games support this. Still, it’s perfect for chaotic couch co-op sessions where your sibling forgets to water the fake tulips and your tea shop burns down (not literally… but emotionally? Yes).
